The question raised: do you believe in miracles?
My answer: yes. A simple yes. I do believe in miracles.
That belief is reinforced in so many ways, at so many times.
I hold a newborn child in my arms and marvel at the perfection of tiny fingers and toes. I stand in the middle of the Badlands, arms flung wide, humbled by a landscape that seems to stretch forever. I gaze at my husband’s picture and know what it is like to feel love. I bow my head before receiving Communion and feel connected to something larger than myself.
These are my miracles.
They arrive without fanfare. They are personal. There is no flash of light, no voices bellowing from the heavens. They are quiet moments that stop me in my tracks and remind me that there is more to this world than what I can see.
They are uncomplicated. They are mine to behold. They make me believe there is indeed a higher power. And I am comforted. I am not alone.
